When the beads emerge from the kiln a second time, they really start to look like beautiful beads. Especially the painted beads look great. The heat from the kiln melts together the glazes, creating a smooth surface. An extra effect can be added by using lusters. Lusters are a special type of liquid which interacts with the baked glaze when heated and creates a gorgeous shimmering effect. Especially on the evenly colored beads, this creates a stunning effect. The lusters are applied using a brush. And once dried for about two hours, they go in the kiln a third time, baking them up to a temperature of 780 degrees Celcius. Once the beads have cooled down again, they emerge from the kiln, ready to be used in the next piece of jewelry
The process of making beautiful ceramic beads is labor intense and requires multiple baking periods in the kiln. Therefore, these beads can take up to a week to make. But the result is more than worth it!
